In addition to the physical, emotional, and financial devastation caused by last year’s derailment in East Palestine, we learned that residents were going to be taxed on the reimbursements they got from Norfolk Southern.
We took on the IRS and now East Palestine residents will not have to pay tax on most of the assistance they received from Norfolk Southern. This is a long overdue step – the people of East Palestine should never have had to pay taxes on assistance they needed in the wake of the derailment.
We’re also taking steps to get the East Palestine community the answers they deserve about the potential long-term effects from the chemical exposures.
I won’t stop fighting for the people of East Palestine.
